Gathering with Indigenous

Gathering with Indigenous & Icaros

With Cariri Xocó & Arara tribe from Brazilian Amazon

Join us for a special evening with indigenous leaders from the Cariri Xocó and Arara tribes. In this intimate gathering, they’ll share insights into their cultures, histories, and traditions, and you'll have the chance to ask questions. After the conversation, you have the opportunity to experience the powerful and sacred ceremonial songs/chants, the so-called Icaros, that embody the deep spiritual connections of their people and aid healing.

**This is a donation-based event (minimum 30€ donation), with all proceeds directly supporting Indigenous communities, contributing to their projects, travel expenses, and families. Therefore please bring some money with you to the event.

Kairi-Xocó

The name Kariri-Xocó was adopted as a consequence of the most recent merger, which occurred about 100 years ago, between the Kariri of Porto Real de Colégio and part of the Xocó of the Sergipe river island of São Pedro. When the indigenous villages were extinguished by the land policy of the Empire, the Xocó had their lands leased and invaded, seeking refuge with the Kariri on the other side of the river.

Kariri (or Kirirí), on the other hand, is a recurring name in the Northeast and evokes a great nation that would have occupied a good part of the territory of the current northeastern states from Bahia to Maranhão. References to Xocó (or Ciocó) date back to the 18th century.
